Lone Working in Councils

According to a survey conducted for the Suzy Lamplugh Trust, 81% of Local Authority lone workers are concerned about violence and aggression.

Minimising risk

Councils throughout the UK employ a lone workforce that covers a wide range of roles, from Social Workers, Enforcement Officers, Committee Officers and Building Control Officers, to Environmental Health Officers, Meals on Wheels delivery workers and Benefits teams.

Staff safety is an important issue for any employer and a growing number of Local Authorities are becoming increasingly committed to minimising the risks to their lone and vulnerable workers.

Peoplesafe are already helping over 150 local authorities up and down the country to fulfill their duty of care.

Providing flexible solutions

A social worker may find themselves in emotionally charged situations that leave them vulnerable, while traffic wardens too frequently face aggression out on the streets. Visiting care staff may be threatened and planning officers may be confronted by angry and aggressive individuals.

The truth is that any lone working in the community may find themselves in a situation which undermines their safety. A study by Community Care also suggests that social workers and care staff are equally as likely to fall victim to attacks during meetings in an office, as they are on home visits.

Peoplesafe offers flexible, tailored solutions to suit the needs of all workers, whatever the situation and whatever the threat.

Protect Duty Legislation

Protect Duty legislation is designed to improve the protection of publicly accessible places from terrorist attacks. The legislation is intended to ensure that businesses and organisations are better prepared to deal with – and respond to – serious incidents.

It will apply to all public spaces which are managed and protected by local authorities; therefore, all 333 councils in the UK will be affected and required to have a Protect Plan in place.

As a disaster unfolds, communicating quickly and effectively with those on the ground is absolutely key to cutting down response time and allowing a rapid exchange of accurate information. This is where Peoplesafe Alert comes in.
